On
the 1st and 2nd of March we traveled with the horses to a town called
Videl where the 25th Anniversary of the horse was taking place. This is
a weekend festival and celebration of the horse. It also included a
rodeo, parade of horses through the street, a live outdoor concert and
funfair and market. Although there was a large amount of wine and asado
consumed as well.
Three
teams traveled from the Mar del Plata Polo Club and we played at the
most beautiful private club with a view of the pampas that went on for
ever, an inviting swimming pool and in the evening excellent food and
entertainment by candle light, including a few games of pool and singing
and guitar playing grooms and players.
The team included one of our JP Morgan guests who made a return visit
this month after his first visit in November.
The team was Carlitos Gonzalez, David Quarmby, Alehandro Muzzio and Kim
Sherman.
The
competition was very fierce as this trophy is very sought after due to
all the importance of this festival in the Province of Buenos Aries. We
played two teams on the first day and after a tough second game against
our friends from Mar del Plata who were certain they were going to win
the tournament we managed to win both games and go through to the final
on the Sunday.
David hoping for support in the finals the next day!!
In
the final on the Sunday we found out we were playing against the local
team of four young guys who had virtually everyone in the crowds
supporting them. So when we scored a goal we heard two screams from our
grooms on the sidelines who were our only support but made up for all
the hundreds against us and certainly kept me in good cheer as I felt
more bruises erupting by the second!
Alehandro scored a fantastic 60 yard penalty in the last minute of the
game to ensure the trophy was ours. We were so happy to go there and win,
Alehandro and Carlitos fought their hearts out and David and I helped
any way we could!
We
were presented the prizes in front of the swimming pool and a few were
pushed in! I also had a special mention as the only women playing
polo...and received a special trophy for having the best behavior
throughout the tournament and Alehandro was awarded and deserved
wholeheartedly the best player of the tournament trophy, so as a team we
did exceptionally well.
Thank you Alehandro and Carlitos for a fantastic weekend and looking
forward to next year already!!!
Sorry..... no pictures of the polo, we were enjoying ourselves far to
much to take any........so only a bit of wobbly video clip available,
you will just have to imagine what kind of a weekend it was......just
brilliant and laughed so much at the guys flying around a mexican hat in
the evening at the funfair, and even in Argentina I have never eaten so
much meat in one weekend.
If
you want to play this tournament next year I will give you some advice
book it early because this is one I suggest no one should miss!!!!
