4th & 5th March Don Carlos de la Serna Memorial Trophy
Don Carlos de la Serna was one of the most distinguished players in the Argentine Polo world. Apart from the awards he received in Argentina, winning the Open at Palermo. He was one of the first Argentine players to succeed all around the world, winning the Queens Cup and the Gold Cup in England, in the 1960’s.
The final was a hard fought match, with the score 6-6 going into the final chukkas, Juan-Cruz Losada scored two goals in the final minute, giving the victory to Cuernavaca. Georgina Brittain a playing visitor from Fifield Polo Club in the UK was also part of the winning team.
A MASSIVE paella was enjoyed by all before the presentations at the fishing club on the pier.

Carlitos was 10 years old when Carlos de la Serna came back to his Estancia for the summer for the first time, (Carlitos father worked for Carlos de la Sernas father). Carlitos always remembers even though he was successful all over the world he took great interest in his riding from ten years old, each year he would help him improve, even though he only had a short summer holiday before he was off on his world travels again playing polo. Carlos de la Serna always said to Carlitos the best polo playing years of his life were when he was between 38 and 47 years old, he achieved a 9 goal handicap. Carlos de la Serna was a very gentle man, with incredible wisdom. 11th & 12th March
These were hard fought matches with Mar del Plata winning both their matches on Saturday and Sunday, the other team from Mar del Plata Polo Club, Carlitos Polo Team, also won both their games on Saturday and Sunday to come second in the tournament as they had a lower total goal difference. Georgina Brittain plays at Fifield Polo Club and Frances Maundrell who was part of the team who came second, plays at Inglesham Polo Club, they were both visiting players from the UK. Teams

The tournament was sponsored by Pinamars local newspaper the “Pionero” and the matches were televised and will be shown this week on Channel 2 in Argentina. Frances spots me taking a photo!
The Fortin Trophy was won by the Cuernavaca Polo Team, Juan-Cruz Losada who played alongside his father at back and against his older brother, so it was a hard fought final. Steven Choo and Chip Tedeschi who both play at Fifield Polo Club in the UK also played against each other in the final. Carole Becker from Fifield and Catherine Ilsted from Ascot Park Polo Club played against each other in the subsidiary finals. The final was won 8-5 and the subsidiary final 6-3 by Agromoncar SRL. Trophies were presented by Fortin’s owner Juan Boubee in the clubhouse after the barbeque. Chip Tedeschi scored three spectacular goals in the qualifying match on Saturday to secure his teams place in the final on Sunday.
