The first important visitors arrive in Mar del Plata

Spring is certainly here now at Mar del Plata Polo Club, after all the excitement of U.S. President George W. Bush visiting Mar del Plata at the beginning of November for the 4th Nation Summit of the Americas, we can again enjoy the tranquillity of the beautiful park Camet and the Atlantic Ocean that surrounds Mar del Plata.

Another important visitor, Francisco E. Dorignac, the president of the Argentine Polo Association arrives on Monday 14th November to finalise all the details for the ten teams playing the Ambassadors Cup.

Ambassadors Cup Mar del Plata Polo Club 29th, 30th November and 1st December 2005

We are very pleased to be hosting the ambassador's cup at Mar del Plata Polo Club from 29th November until 1st December. Ambassadors of Polo from all over the World will play a three day tournament at Mar del Plata as a run up to The Open in Palermo. Exciting social events have been planned for all the Ambassadors in Mar del Plata where they will be staying for the duration of the tournament. People and players at Mar del Plata Polo Club

This article is written each week on the people and players at Mar del Plata Polo Club. The first profile is on Juan Boubee, owner of Fortin, the very addictive leather store in Mar del Plata. Juan Boubee is one of the older members of Mar del Plata Polo Club. He does not play so much anymore, only in the veterans tournament in February. Here, Carlitos is looking at boot leather with Juans son Santiago and Mercedes, Mercedes is the manageress of the factory and main shop and seems to be the only person that can hurry the cobblers if an order is overdue, (Which is most of the time). We have learnt that true craftsman cannot be hurried, its impossible, we given up trying, you just wait until they have finished, (6-12 weeks), but the results are the best in the world. People come from all over Argentina to buy their polo boots and shoes from Fortin, that seem to last forever! Some people come back for an identical pair of shoes after having themfor thirty years! Juan loves his food (his waistline might give this away), his fauvorite restaurant is a tenedor libre, where you pay your money and theyjust keep coming with the meat until you cannot eat anymore, a fantastic salad and sweet buffet accompany the meal all for £4 a head!
