Polo Livery
We are based only 35 minutes in a car from the center of London.
The cost is £120 a week per polo pony this entitles you both to:
For you…. Continual polo coaching from Carlitos and your polo boots cleaned every day, also…..
Each evening you can stick and ball or play chukkas. Wednesday and Friday evening you can join club chukkas. These all start about 7pm, giving you enough time to get out of London.
Supervised stick and ball You learn…how to ride your pony in polo style, how to control the mallet and the ball and how to deliver your stroke naturally. Then as you advance, you learn to improve your riding, your swing and stroke as well as tactics and game strategy. You will also be taught how to school your polo pony.
Weekends
Every weekend you can enter club tournaments at varying levels with prize presentations in the club house.
The grooms also enjoy cooking barbeques in the evening, a very welcome added bonus after some tough polo.
We also have brand new shower facilities so that you can shower after playing and feel fresh and clean for your well deserved drink in the bar. Lockers are also available so that you can keep your polo kit and favourite shampoo at the polo club!
For your polo pony…
Your polo pony will be mucked out early in the morning, fed and then group exercised in the morning, groomed and her stable skipped out regularly all day. If you do not ride in the evening then she will go out on exercise with some of her friends instead in the late afternoon. Carlitos requests that you call him in the morning so that he knows if you will be riding each evening. Monday is the day off for your polo pony, she will go out in the fields to relax and mix with her friends naturally so that she can totally switch off for one day. This is very important for the ponies mental health through the summer when they spend a lot of time being ridden and in their loose box. Carlitos will put her out in the week for a few hours if he feels she needs a break mid-week. You will have one regular groom, so that your pony gets used to them and so do you, one groom looks after no more than seven ponies.
Carlitos decides if your polo pony needs some extra schooling and supervises all the schooling, so that your pony always go well for you.
Carlitos welcomes comments on how the ponies are going for you, he is continually striving for the perfectly comfortable playing pony to make your polo playing easier, after all even Cambiaso says 80% of your performance is your pony.
Your groom cleans your tack(saddle and bridle) every day, cleaning bandages and blankets. All mucking out and grooming equipment is supplied by us, we also have a fully equipped medical box for all the polo ponies kept with us. After you have played your pony, she is checked all over for any knocks, bruises or minor cuts. We have an excellent farrier on site who does all our shoeing and charges £55 for a set, these usually have to be replaced every six weeks. This is not included in the full livery price. Winter Months
The ponies look very woolly with their winter coats and mentally have a well earned rest, all our clients pop down to visit them in the winter and Becky enjoys having people going down to see how their polo ponies are, most do not recognise them as they put on so much weight and grow a mammoth coat! Winter Livery is £22 per week per pony and starts the beginning of October until the beginning of April, then they come in to get fit again for the summer polo. Leasing a pony and associated costs….
For those of you thinking about owning your own polo pony but not sure you can cope financially and with the commitment of owning your own pony just yet, we offer the chance to lease one or two polo ponies for your first full polo season. Leasing with us, is only available for one season, after that you should be ready to buy a polo pony as your riding and playing will have improved to such a level you will need your own polo pony and you can commit your time and money to this sport, or if you find you do not have the time to ride four times a week, renting ponies for chukkas at the weekend is another option after you have learnt to play polo to this standard. Leasing is exactly the same cost as Full Livery, and you treat the pony as your own, it has all the tack and equipment it needs to play polo and it will be kept with us as if it is on full livery. This also gives you the opportunity to know what it is like to play good ponies and play regularly on the same pony. It makes such a difference rather than rent ponies where you are continually changed to different ponies and never get to ride and know one really well. To really bond with your pony they will insist you bring them carrots! Leasing only works out much cheaper than renting ponies if you are going to come and ride more than once a week. We only have a limited number of polo ponies to lease, so unfortunately we often do not have enough for all those who want to lease a polo pony. The costs to lease a pony per week are: £30 box/stable rental £120 full livery £40 Pony Insurance and leasing cost Every six weeks: Shoeing £55 One off costs for the season: Club Membership £1250 plus VAT Medical Box £30 (per pony) Teeth rasping for polo bitting and flu injections £60 (per pony at the start of the season
Wish you were here!!
In the winter your Polo Pony grows woolly and fat!!
